Our Own Little Shire
Huntington Sunken Gardens- Huntington, IN
“Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.”
A few weeks ago, a gentle breeze blew a dandelion seed in through my car window and set it down on my lap. One would think that this seed was a waste (unless you're like most Americans who have it out for the dandelion!), landing in such a spot where it could not grow. But, just before it landed, I had been telling myself all kinds of lies and feeling like a failure- you're not a good mommy... how could you do that again, won't you ever get it right... you will never be enough... you can never do enough. And immediately upon seeing that tiny seed on my lap my mindset changed and I realized the significance of what had just happened.
I am like the dandelion who releases its seeds to be blown away in the wind.
They are seeds of kindness, charity, encouragement and love.
When the wind blows, my seeds spread near and far. I don't always see where they land and I have no control over where they go and what becomes of them. My job is simply to release them. But, I can trust that they will begin to change the landscape around me. I can trust that there are others who will tend to my seeds, and still others who will benefit from the garden that is created. I only need to let those seeds go freely- to love freely- to spread hope and good news. The rest is up to God.
I'd love to hear from you in the comments!
